Bobbie Thompson, the supportive spouse of a transgender male-to-female, tells her side of their story in "My HUSBAND Looks Better in Lingerie Than I Do ... DAMN IT," in this companion memoir to "Hung in the Middle A Journey of Gender Discovery," (www.hunginthemiddle.com) written by her spouse, Alana Nicole Sholar.

After knowing 'him' for nearly 25 years, and even sharing a three-year intimate relationship in the mid-1990's, upon seeing 'her' for the first time in 2006, Bobbie was freaked out and didn't want to have anything to do with 'her.' Two years later, December 31, 2008, they were married.

But marriage was only the beginning of this wild and wonderful ride they share called life. Often when Bobbie shares with others that her spouse is transgender she is asked, "Why in the world would you choose to be married to someone like that."

"My HUSBAND Looks Better in Lingerie Than I Do ... DAMN IT" answers that question and further explains theirs is a happy marriage, although they face the same pitfalls faced in any marriage, such as financial difficulties, in addition to many situations other marriages may never encounter, such as Alana being diagnosed as HIV positive.

Bobbie's is a transition story ... not a story of physical transition as are most stories about transgender persons, but a story of transition of perspective ... from ignorance and misunderstanding to educated and informed.

Bobbie and Alana still live in the same rural Kentucky town where they both grew up ... only Alana grew up there as a male.

"My HUSBAND Looks Better in Lingerie Than I Do ... DAMN IT," not only shares true experiences and lessons learned from those experiences, but is a life transforming love story.

My Husband Looks Better in Lingerie Than I Do Damn It eBook Bobbie Thompson Reviews

I loved this story and felt like I really got to know Bobbie through reading it.

This is a fantastic memoir to introduce people to the experience of coming to terms with and supporting a transgender person. While it was a little hard to read the judgments and thoughts Bobbie had about Alana when she first realized Alana was presenting as female, it's absolutely integral to the story. It allows the reader to see Bobbie as a real person, with real, not-so-pretty thoughts, and identify with her. Bobbie then uses that rapport with the reader to show them a path to loving and supporting the transgender people in their life.

As transgender people become more visible, stories like Bobbie's will be invaluable to help eliminate fear of the unknown and help people come to terms with the fact that the world is different than they might have thought.

The book could have used a little more editing, but I give it 5 stars regardless because the message of the story is 5-star worthy.
I found this book in an ongoing effort to learn more about being and living with a person who has the strength to act on feelings of being in the wrong body. My trans friends have described their journeys to me, but I saw little commonality between them, other than an overwhelming need to live life that would show their true gender choice. This book shows the growth of two people, one a transwoman and the other, one who loved her deeply. A moving story of growth and acceptance in today's transgender relationship.
I devoured this book over three days. I could not put it down as Bobbie Thompson has a great storytelling ability. Her journey from somewhat closed-minded woman in a small town to blossoming into being open and accepting to all walks of life was wonderful. I think each chapter was delivered perfectly in a way to help the reader understand each step of the way.

Well written with a great delivery, it helped me to understood why Bobbie felt the way she did at first and why she changed her point of view. This is a great read for anyone wanting to understand the life, culture and diverse world of transgender. I highly recommend this book if you are what you would consider a "normal person" struggling to understand others who are different. Not just transgender, but people with different thoughts, sexualities and ways of living. Likewise it's the perfect read for anyone who is transgender and wants to understand the learning process of those not born trans.

A perfect companion book to her spouse's. I would recommend having both on the coffee table at all times for anyone who stops by for a visit!
For once , Bobbi Thompson has written about we transgender people as humans and productive citizens . I applaud this lady over her having the courage to allow her mind to see us as equals !
I loved this book! I highly recommend everyone read it weather you know a trans person or not!
I enjoyed reading this book and found her experiences valuable to her story and outlook on life. It was recommended by a friend and I read it over a weekend.
This is a revolutionary love story about how people can learn to see past the packaging and fall in love and truly embrace what is inside a person. Ms. Thompson's down to earth style makes it easy to read and to relate to. There are moments I laughed out loud and moments I cried. This is a great book for anyone currently in a relationship with a trans* person, Trans* folks, and family members on both sides of the equation. Thank you for writing it.
